What is Paintwork Correction?

The Process of Machine Paintwork Correction involves removing swirl marks, fading paint (e.g red to pink) & light scratches from the paintwork whether it be a base coat colour or a lacquered finish (clear coat). This is done using a number of different polish and pad combinations which are dependent on many factors.

The main factors are:
Car Manufacturer, Age of Paintwork and Severity of Marks.

The paint will be assessed for thickness using a professional digital gauge and a polish pad combination will be tested. Once the correct combination is found, the paint will then undergo it's renovation.

It is a common misconception by body shops, dealerships and vehicle cleaning companies that one polish fits all!
So it is not unusual to see cars leaving their premises covered in paintwork defects such as Buffer trails and swirls.

I carry a large range of Polishes and Pads with us on all details, so that, not only can the defects be removed safely but then the paintwork can be finished down to produce a truly flawless finish.

Remember a re-spray is not always the answer.
Detailing carried out by myself will cost far less and will produce some fantastic jaw dropping results that will make you fall in love with your vehicle all over again.

Why use a Paint Thickness Gauge?

A paint thickness gauge is used on all correction details.
In fact, we would never carry out paintwork correction without first taking numerous readings to confirm that the level of paint is sufficient and it is safe to proceed.

This device will measure the thickness of paint in microns. It will also identify if a
re spray has been carried out or if it has been damaged and a filler has been used to repair it.
These readings are vital to a correction detail & machine polishing. This will warn me about defects that could potentially damage the paint.
It will also guide me to the level of correction which can be achieved.

Some scratches will be too deep to remove and some paint too thin to fully correct heavy swirls and deeper marks.
This procedure should always be carried out first. Readings will be taken all over the vehicle and can take up to an hour to complete.
This will give me an insight to how the paint has been applied and if there are any repairs etc then this will help in how to tackle that area safely.

Beware of companies offering cheap machine polishing. This is not detailing and it will be unlikely that the correct preparation stages will be carried out. This will lead to a poor finish on your vehicles paint and will be hidden by a layer of wax of a filler heavy polish giving an illusion of the desired shine.
This will of course make the vehicle appear polished but the sun and certain lights will reveal the darker truth. Click here
Not only will you be out of pocket but you will be left with a poor looking finish on your pride and joy and left having to outlay more expense to have the job done properly.

This type of buffer trial damage will also make it essential that the correct tools are used to carry out the work.
A poor machine polish process will remove a layer off the top of the paint surface and will have reduced, to some extent, the safe levels a Detailer can work with.
This can sometimes  result in un-safe levels of paint & clear coat to properly correct the vehicle.

The main aim is to get a truly stunning finish, leaving amazing and flawless results ensuring that the vehicle is left in great condition that will far outshine any lesser methods and a leave safe level of paint remaining for the rest of it's life.

Remember there may be a time when you wish to have your vehicle detailed again.

You will see the difference between Detailed paint and any other lesser method
